Ta Dah!

Good evening. I hope that you are all fine and that life is treating you well.

I am not going to go into details about my long absences again……it’s the same old same old- work, work work!  No I have got something to share with you all. 🙂

I was so happy with how this turned out that I have to broadcast it everywhere!

Fully lined, and with a drawstring to keep things nice and safe. I have made it big enough to fit a lunch box so my lunch is going to be beautifully presented at work tomorrow!

I was so happy to be behind the machine again I cannot tell you. I have really missed the daily make and upload, but I am not going to beat myself up about tha lack of posts anymore. I am going to enjoy what I do and tell you all about it as and when. It is has been a hard lesson, but I have learnt it and realise that I can not post and make at the same rate that I was this time last year.

Yes! I have completed my year! I am now onto A year on the mark part two, and loving the free and easy crafting that I have started. It’s the craft equivalent of yoga! Calm and fulfilling. I am loving it. I can honestly say that I completed my year too. I will admit that some of the craft was literally sewing patches for the monster patchwork flag, but I created something everyday which is what I set out to do. I had a ball along the way, and a few tears, but all in all I enjoyed it so much that when the webpage was up for renewal I did not hesitate.

So you have me for another year. What do I want this year to bring?

  • I am not going to put as much pressure on myself to complete and post everyday- or week, but I will set myself time to post. I am thinking about doing a weekly post on a Thursday night with photo’s of that weeks make…not sure will let you know.
  • I aim to complete the monster patchwork. I thought I would have done by now, but like “blast it” I lost interest and it finished up with a couple of patches a day. I will show you what I have done so far later this week.
  • I intend to have fun and try new things instead of doing the same things everytime- as much as I love the baby berry hats and shoes I want to have a go at rag rugs and upcycling!

So my friends the other rule remains the same- I need to do something every day without fail- even Christmas!

Wish me luck for year two. 🙂

I can’t believe it’s days 100, 101 and 102!

Good evening!

I know I said I was going to post first thing this morning……but the internet was down! Honest! We were all awake at stupid o’clock too, for reasons I will go into later.

I have decided that I won’t post about today tonight. We have had a fun packed day, and I need to write a special post about it. You will understand when you see tomorrow’s pictures.

Day 100!

This is the view that we have had of the rolling hills for the past few days. How miserable!

Today we went to Royal Ascot! Not literally, you understand, but it was ladies day and it was throwing it down. Today we decided to ‘make’ the most of a rainy day. How creative could we be? Well; Auntie M decided that we would bring Ascot to the rolling hills, out of the rain and with the best view in the house to view the races.

It was ingenious. We started with a buffet lunch, complete with cucumber sandwiches. We decided that as there were five of us we would do a sweep stake for each of the races….just a bit of fun! I can honestly say that the hours wizzed by. I didn’t win any races..it just shows that gambling doesn’t pay ! The afternoon was rounded up with Champagne and strawberries. Yum!

Absolutely gorgeous!

Day 101

Can you remember me  telling you about the new addition to our family? The truth is that this ew addition is 8 weeks early. An absolute little miracle. This really got me working out how my regular patterns can be adapted for a very tiny baby. Well this is what I came up with…….Now these are a new pattern for me. Even so, I needed to make them a little smaller the pattern said. Quite a bit smaller in fact.Have a look…….Can you see the fifty pence? Hopefully this gives you the perspective of how little these shoes really are!

Day 102

Well a new baby needs to keep warm. So to go with the shoes is a teeny tiny hat. Two sizes smaller than the ones I normally make.

Fit for our little miracle.

See you tomorrow.

Days 91,92 and 93

Good evening.

I have to start with an explanation. You have probably noticed that I have not blogged for the past couple of days. The fact is, I am trying to slow down a little in preparation for my return to work. It is really difficult to squeeze in a make and a blog on the same day. If you look at the times that I have been posting sometimes it is 12 or 1 am and I have to be realistic. I cannot possibly continue to do this and prepare for lessons too. I hope you don’t mind. My blogging may be a little erratic over the next few weeks until I have found my new rhythm.

I can promise you that the making has not stopped however. I am still going to be making….or continuing a project everyday.

For the past three days I have washed and washed and washed!  We have a mountain of washing in the shape of Mount Everest that we brought back from holiday. By the end of this week I know that I am going to need another holiday!

I was determined not to have to face this washing drama again this year. I was prepared. Look above and see what I took with me! The plan was to use the campsite facilities and warm weather, do a couple of washes and bring back some clean clothes. The weather however,  was definitely against me. We had a glorious few days at the beginning of the week when we had clean clothes….but we left in a monsoon. So Mount Everest was faced again. 😦

Ho hum! We also are sitting in the tropics now as we have to have the heating on to dry it all. Dang! British summer time is here again.

I have got to admit to losing my ‘making mojo’ over the past couple of days too. End of holiday blues? Or is it that I need to refocus again and get looking for inspiration? Who knows! Whatever it is I have to admit to being a little lazy over the past three days. This is coming to a close…I am determined. Now, I am not admitting to sitting doing nothing over the past three days however. Oh no! I do admit to not being as productive as I was before my holiday, but;

…….I have done a bit of this on Monday (day 91)………..

…….and a bit of that on Tuesday (day 92)………….

…….and finally started on this today (day 93)…………

So I have not taken my eye completely off the 365 day target!

The problem is I am feeling really lethargic and cannot put my mind to something completely to finish, so we can have a tadah moment. But I am determined that we will have one tomorrow. I just need to make about another 20 of these little flowers.

I also have this lined up ready for my next make………

I love working with this yarn, I never get tired of using it. Unfortunately my local JL store doesn’t stock it at the moment. Boooo!

Anyway, I need to make some more little flowers for my tadah tomorrow! I will post tomorrow…promise.

See you then.

Day 65- Only another 300 to go, post 2

Good evening!

It has been a lovely day here in the rolling hills. The sun has shone and it has been pleasant, not too warm and not too cold.

So how have I spent the day?

Well we seem to have collected rather a large amount of clutter. These seem to have been stashed into bag for life bags and needed sorting. You know how it is, people are coming over, so all the paper that is on the side gets put into a bag and hidden away! I didn’t know that people knew I did this, until we were tidying my classroom one day; one of the children in my class offered to hold the box, when I said I was going to clear my desk! Cheeky monkey! Even cheekier my job share labelled the drawer that I hide things in ‘The Hiding Drawer’!

Anyway today  the day that it was all going to get sorted. It was a good day too as the paper bin had been emptied this morning.

What craft have I done? Well I have not been shirking! I have grabbed five minutes to knit 20 more rows of the cardigan I am making. It is quite nice to return to something, especially when the end is in sight. I have got half a sleeve and the right front to do until the ‘Tadah’ moment. I find knitting so slow and frustrating. I love it when I have done as I know that wearing a garment I have knitted makes me very proud, but because I usually sew, I am used to things being finished in an hour or two. This is probably why I like the baby berry hats so much, they are completed in a day.

I have also done this……..

…another cushion! I know I have got lots of cushions already made…..but I may have another fair on Saturday! I had some squares left over so I thought I would put them to good use. Must admit to doing a bit of this the other day…..but I’ve done knitting too today so let me off! I’ll keep you posted on the fair.

It has been a funny day today. I bit of a sore tummy day. The best way I can describe what I am feeling is when you fall down and your knee throbs where it has been grazed; well I have felt like that all day…only the throbbing has been when where by gall bladder used to be! Explain that one! I am going to have to go and get settled…….(get the curtains drawn,) and try to get some sleep. I am not sure what I can take, if anything, to make this pain go away. I must admit it’s a new one on me! Ho hum! They did say it may take some time to get back to normal….and I thought I would be back in the classroom after two weeks!

Anyway enough moaning! I am going to get some sleep and wake fully refreshed and recharged ready for more fabric creations. Hurrah!

See you tomorrow.

Day 63- A time for reflection

Good evening folks! I hope you are all well, and that the sun has been shining for you too.

It has been a bit of a funny day really. As I posted earlier, DH let me sleep in today. I think he thought I needed it. I have to admit to running on empty for the past few days. As a friend said to me when I started this blog…now that I have time to relax I have set myself a whole new set of deadlines! I can’t help it. I normally lead such a busy life, so for this to stop so suddenly I find myself all at sixes and sevens. This is why I have thrown myself into making.

As you know I am much more philosophical about my weekend. I have a few regrets, but everyone who was there as a trader seemed to struggle. I decided that today I was going to make something frivolous and silly. It didn’t actually turn out like that however, but today’s make really makes me smile!

I have done an awful lot of improvisation, and designing my own patterns and creations. I have always seen things that I like and wanted to make them, or make them a little bit different to the original design. As soon as I started to use a needle and cut fabric I have not always stuck to the pattern. Sometimes my ideas flop….sometimes I win. A bit like the peg bag….it didn’t look right the first attempt but I got there in the end. Today has all been about creating a prototype for ideas that are simply swimming around in my head. No pattern, just me, yarn and a set of double pointed needles. Want to see?

Here you go…………

Cute isn’t it! Well I think so. There are things that I need to adjust, but I absolutely love it! A Baby Cupcake hat! I haven’t seen anything like this around, so I can call it an Ickle Ed original! 🙂 It will soon be ready to join the ranks of the Baby Berry Hats.

Talking of the Baby Berry sets, I have news on that front too. Last Friday I was contacted by Folksy to say that I had sold the Gooseberry set. I was very excited as this was my first sale. Unfortunately after my disappointing Saturday I arrived home to a disappointing email. The buyer no longer wanted my cute little set. 😦 Today however I received an email from a college in Lancashire that want to sell my Gooseberry sets. I’m not sure what I am going to do. I need to think about it, talk it over with DH and read all the information they have sent carefully. It made me feel a little happier knowing that somebody actually likes my work.

I have been asked why I chose such an unusual berry. A lot of thought has been put into it. When I was deciding to branch out my lines of berries from Blueberries and strawberries, I made a long list. It occurred to me that the little people who would be wearing these would be babies. And where do babies come from? From under the gooseberry bush of course! And so the gooseberry hat came to be!

Well after a very funny sort of day, I am off to bed! Decadence! Bed at 9.30pm!

See you tomorrow!
