Getting Back into it!

Standard

Good evening.

I must admit to really looking forward to writing this post this evening. Writing the post last night really highlighted what I have been missing. I think I see this as a form of escape and a way of emptying my head of everything before bedtime…..when I eventually got to bed last night I slept really well.

So here I am ready to go.

But we have a problem. The camera has run out of charge!

NOOOOOOO! (She takes a deep breath.)

It’s not a problem. I didn’t want to show any pictures anyway. ..She says lying! Ok so what can I do before disappointment sets in?

Well I have to admit to having had problems with the camera before Christmas, so much so that I bought a cheap standby just in case we didn’t have anything to capture the precious moments with. Unfortunately the quality is not as good as my old faithful, but I can at least show you some of the crafts that were made before the Christmas festivities.

December

Digital Camera

Can you see what I mean about the quality? Ho hum…it’s better than nothing I suppose, and I so want to restart the blogging mojo.

So what is it about. Well as you can see by the date this was Christmas Eve and I was still making. Upon the tree, mixed into the other decorations you will see gingham hearts, pom poms and Scandinavian hearts. I decided that I needed to take precautions due to these little fellows……DSC02957

Now I love my Christmas tree, especially all the little memories that go with each one of the ornaments and baubles that I have collected over the years. Unfortunately most of these are glass. Having survived Moo, Boo and Roo, I didn’t want any of them to succumb to the feline monsters.  So they were left safely snug in their packaging and replaced, for this year at least, with less fragile trinkets. I know you can’t really see them, but I think you get the idea. It was good thinking in the end, as it soon became clear as the branches were left to settle, that both of our kittens enjoyed scaling the dizzying heights and were up and down it like rats in a drain pipe! Can you see how the tree is leaning? It actually toppled over completely on the 29th of December and had to be replaced by our artificial standby…..Boo!

Can you also see what is sneaking into the bottom of the picture?

Want a closer look?

Digital Camera

Tadah! Baby christmas tree decorations.

You don’t really get the true sense of these due to the grainy picture. The materials were a mixture of Christmas prints and silks. They were not as big as the summer trees that i made, but they were very popular. I finished up making seven of these. I made a couple for a Christmas Bazaar, but that led to orders being placed for five more. I could have made even more, but I just ran out of time. I am sure you know how that is before Christmas. You can also see one of the Christmas tree, Christmas tree decorations that I made……can you see it? Green and to the left of the picture. Very fiddly to make to be lost in the branches of the tree. I don’t think I will be making any more for next year.!

Christmas seems such a long way away now. All the work and preparation that goes into creating the perfect day passes by and the feeling of  ‘what was all that about?’ sets in.

Other crafts that were accomplished was the making of home-made mincemeat, Christmas hampers including jams, chutney, biscuits and gingerbread, and a few patches being sewn to the union flag patchwork. ( Yes it is still on the go!)

Looking at the evidence of the flurry of activity it looks really pathetic, but I worked for hours for very little. Never mind, I have all the decorations for next year…..and I already have orders for more trees! (If you want one let me know now so I can book it in!)

Anyway bed is calling. I can assure you that the camera is on charge for more reveals tomorrow. I have Most of November and all of January to show so I will be back tomorrow …..I promise!

Night all. xxxxxxxx

Days….. from my last post to today! (I will work it out later)

Standard

Good Morning, afternoon or evening. 🙂 Long time no see? Many apologies, but I intend to address my cyberspace absence in this post.

Have you ever noticed…those of you with children, and those of you without…..how the days just seem to roll into one during the summer? I started this project ready to dedicate myself to making or contributing to a make, everyday for a year. The pace of things seem to have slowed down over the past few weeks, although despite my absence from posting, the makes have continued even if it is only sewing a patch on the mega patchwork.

I am guilty of lots of things over the past few weeks these being……

  • spending time with my children and neglecting my makes
  • starting new child friendly project everyday with not a hint of guilt about ignoring my crafty ones
  • forgetting to write my blog, even though I have taken hundreds of photographs to show
  • Having lots of new inspiring experiences, but not sharing them with anyone on the blog

Am I to be court martialed for being absent without leave from the blog, because I am enjoying time with the little people in my life?

To answer that I have to think about the priorities in my life. What is most important? As this is my blog, therefore it makes me judge and jury. How do I feel about not blogging everyday?

Personally, selfishly, I have missed it; but as a mother, do I put my electronic child before my organic ones? Definitely not! The time that I have spent with the monsters is precious and only happens once. How can I justify spending time at the laptop and sewing machine when there are adventures to be had? I’m glad you agree!

So what have we been up to? Have a look at these………

Home grown potatoes ready for the pot…..

Beetroot coming on nicely!

Potatoes ready for roasting with rosemary.

We then had a little visitor. Mr ED!

Now I have not had a hamster since I was 13 years old and I had forgotton what a racket they make at night! He is really a cute little fellow..just noisy. We got to 1.30am when DH could stand it no longer and had to remove the wheel form the ‘hamster palace’, the sound of which was reverberating through the floor to our room from the sitting room. (We have put it back in again this morning though Mrs H!) Eddie didn’t seem to mind though, he just spent the rest of the night running through his tube and up and down his stairs. I’m sure we will get used to it though. It occured to me why are we spending so much on wind farms when we could have hamster farms with wheels attached to the national grid? It’s a win win situation….they get exercise and fun, we get light!

Unfortunately the monsters now want a hamster!

Back to the garden………..

More rhubarb and ginger jam to replace the diminished store!

And a visit to the latest Sheffield tourist spot…………

Then we had visitors to our road. Roo was loving seeing all the monster trucks come and go. He sat on the garden wall inspecting what was going on for nearly a week.

We had to drive up and down the road a bit to check it out….just like Lightening McQueen.

After all of that Moo decided to have a go a baking……….

Gorgeous cakes…..shame about the state of the kitchen when she had finished!

An eventful two weeks so far I think you’ll agree. I’ll be back tomorrow to show what craft I have been up to.

See you then.

Good morning, afternoon or evening.

How are we all? I have to make a huge apology……I haven’t given the results of the give away!

Time has simply run away with me, and here we are the middle of the week again.

So here we go……..

I included all the names of people who have emailed me or left a comment about the Olympic give away. (There are quite a few of you who are dreadfully shy!)

These were placed in an appropriate container……….

….and Roo picked one out.

And the winner is………

Congratulations Julie. Please can you email me with your address details and your prize will be rushed to you.

Thank you to everyone who commented or emailed me with your Olympic stories.

See you later.

Give away reminder

Standard

Good morning, afternoon or evening.

Where has the time gone? 16 days ago I started the Olympic giveaway, and here we are on the final day.

Just to remind you it is not too late to enter all you have to do is to comment on any of the posts that I have made since the giveaway launch about what you viewed and where you were in the world during the olympics,  how you celebrated the Olympics, or how you avoided it all. It is your chance to win this…….

One of my Union flag cushions.

All names will be placed in a hat and the lucky winner will be drawn from a hat tomorrow evening. (We thought this would be better as it allows for the time difference around the world.)

Someone has got to win so have a go, and good luck.

Day 67…or are we 68? I am too tired to care!

Standard

Picture the scene……

The stall is set up… it’s looking beautiful…..people are celebrating the colour in the corner. You have just settled down after a couple of good sales……

When you hear…..

‘Duff! Duff! Duff!’

(Pssst! It is a true Jurassic Park….water glass….Teranosaurus Rex type moment!)

People are turning towards the staircase wondering what creature will appear from around the bend. Is it Godzilla? Mr Staypuff?

People are wondering should they run away in fear? Some are frozen unable to move! I am standing…eyes closed….because I know what is going to happen next………

“Mummy!!!”

Eager faces charge to my stall proffering sandwiches and apples.

“What are you doing here? Is it a craft fair?”

Smiles turn in my direction (reprieve all round!)…..”Oh so it is her that is causing the commotion!” ( “I ‘aven’t done owt!”)

In my head a chorus of voices sing the praises of my stall and the positivity it makes them feel.

Reality…………………………..

“I didn’t want to come…Dad made me!”

“I’ve had to put up with this all morning!”

“I want a cake!”

“Have you only got one chair! Tuh! Where am I going to sit?”

“Cor! We’ve got a telly this time!”

The Cavalry had arrived! And very pleased I was to see them too. I am always pleased to gain support from my nearest and dearest. But when it comes to any type of shopping I adopt the old Yorkshire saying….

” Oh! Thanks for coming! ( (Whispered)Thanks for going!)

It has taken 14 years for me to accept that the men in my family simply do not like shopping! Any shopping! The fact that they turned up…..noisily……to support me, shows that they are willing to put aside the hatred that they have for the ‘Beelzebub’ activity of retail therapy, and entered hell on earth, in their eyes, to walk alongside their wife or mother for a while. I greatly appreciated them coming…..and I didn’t care about the knowing smiles from some, (whose monsters are a  home,) scornful looks from others ,and ‘I’m glad it’s her’ sniggers from the rest. These are my boys! And as noisy as they are…especially in any type of retail space…and how ever much of my ‘we made this for you’ sandwich the pinch; they are there for me!

Moo on the other hand can’t get enough of this craft business! She came at lunch…and stayed till the end of the day. (That’s my girl!)

So what was the day like?

I loved it!

We were in a fantastic space….with fabulous original pictures of the walls. I had fantastic company with the other stall holders. What more could I ask?

It’s all getting a bit ‘samey’, these shots of the stalls I am doing! Just different locations….so I promise, if I do another craft fair, there will be no more shots of the stall….unless I decide to go for a different  arrangement. Promise!

I also did a make today…although I have not finished it yet, the big reveal will have to be tomorrow! I promise.

Why did I enjoy today so much? To be honest last weekend was a bit of a kick in the ribs. I have spent the week asking myself lots of questions

‘Are my makes too boring?’

‘Are they too expensive?’

‘Are they just simply rubbish…..but my family and friends can’t tell me!’

Anything to explain why I did so badly last weekend. I have to remember that everybody was in the same boat. The fact I sold loads today shows me that the effort I am putting in is worth it. I am so pleased!

I’m a very happy bunny tonight,

See you tomorrow. (With today’s make plus tomorrow’s!)

Day 56- May Day Bank Holiday

Standard

Good morning.

I’m just grabbing a bit of time while lunch is cooking (sausage sandwiches….by request!.)  It has been hard work this morning getting going. I have a Rooster who insists that pajamas are his choice of outfit for the day. Boo, who has decided that if it has got a plug attached, makes a pinging noise and has lots of buttons to press, then that is what he will do today; and Moo who has spent the whole morning deciding what to wear and preening herself in front of a mirror (Oh to be 11 again!).

I have begun my day talking to my best friend, the wall, as it is the only thing that listens to me, doesn’t argue back, stays where it is and doesn’t make a mess!

So this is the kind of day I am having! I am about to put the kettle on, make a pot of strong coffee, and turn on the sewing machine. Hopefully I will have lots to show later today…….but I have promised a trip out to wear ourselves out, and a film and popcorn later.  Here’s hoping!

Day 55

Standard

Good morning!

Yes I’m posting particularly early today as I have lots to do…and I’m not sure I’ll be able to post again this evening.

The day began early. DH is away from today till Wednesday, and so myself and Moo had to be up to see him off. He says it is work…but he is off to the Olympic site for a good nosey round…and to watch hockey. How can that be work? He’ll be back on Wednesday claiming he is really tired, but with lots of information about how the stadiums are wonderful…and he saw this….and he saw that…..and he met so and so………’Oh but it was tiring!’ (Only joking 🙂 )

Anyway, the younger monsters are not here this morning as they went for a sleep over at Ter Lou’s house. It simply isn’t fair. No organic alarm clock and I still had to be up early!

Well I have this to show you this morning. I am not cheating….I made these yesterday, but I couldn’t face the laptop again last night to post them. The headache is still there by the way. I can see the cocodomol that I got after the op coming out at this rate! Anyway; what do you think?

…a pair of cushions! These are made from recycled material too. I think these will look fab in the garden.

…..a patchwork cushion. This is only a small one…and it takes so much fabric to make these diagonals you would not believe.

Well it is bread baskets on the menu today. So I will bid you adieu for now.

See you later
